Staff Nurse - RN - Behavioral Health – Nichols Cottage - Nights

Nichols Cottage, part of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, is an 17-bed inpatient child psychiatric unit designed to help children, aged 5 to 12 years, and their families manage crises.
Treatment begins with an integrative biopsychosocial formulation focusing on the factors that led to the inpatient admission. The hospitalization involves stabilizing acute symptoms, ensuring the safety of self and others, rapid and in-depth review of diagnosis and the psychosocial circumstances, implementation of effective psychopharmacologic and psychological treatments along with an individualized discharge plan. The milieu was designed to be a space of comfort fostering a child friendly atmosphere. The treatment team collaborates extensively with the patient’s family to gather information, enhance communication and strengthen or establish a support system. Family work continues throughout the hospitalization providing support psychoeducation, skill development and safety planning. The teams work collaboratively to assist in the coordination of referrals, appointments and securing outpatient services as the patients progress towards discharge.
This is a full time (40 hrs./week) nights shift 3x12 hour shift & additional 8 hrs. bi-weekly position with every other weekend (Sat + Sun) coverage at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Westchester Behavioral Health Center.
Preferred Criteria
Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.

Preferred Criteria
- At least 1 year of previous experience in inpatient Med-Surg nursing
- Nursing Certifications
- At least 1 year of previous experience in inpatient psychiatric nursing
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Current New York State RN license
- BCLS certification
- Complete Nurse Residency Program if new Graduate
- Knowledge of nursing process: social, behavioral, biological and physical science & current health care environment
- Knowledge of customer service principle & effective interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of use of computer applications
- Ability to analyze patient care data to deliver and evaluate care
- Orientation completion
