Licensed Practical Nurse- School 1:1, LPN New

An education system on Long Island is currently seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (RN) to work 1-on-1 with a 7-year-old diabetic, female student.

About the Opportunity:

• Start Date: ASAP
• Assignment Length: Ends in June 2025
• Schedule: Monday to Friday
• Hours: 8am to 3pm
• Setting: School
• Patient Demographic: Type-1 Diabetic (7-year-old female student)

Responsibilities:

• Regularly taking and recording vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen levels, etc.)
• Performing assessments like checking level of consciousness or cognitive function
• Regularly assessing pain and assisting with pain management plans.
• Administering prescribed medications, either orally, intravenously, or through other means, ensuring proper dosage and timing
• Documenting all medication administration and observing for side effects or reactions
• Ensuring medications are stored and disposed of properly, following protocols
• Offering emotional support to the patient, as well as family members, to help cope with the illness or treatment process
• Providing reassurance and comfort for patients who may feel anxious, scared, or in pain.
• Maintaining accurate and thorough records of the patient's condition, treatments, medications, and other aspects of care
• Educating the patient or family about the disease process, treatment options, medication regimen, and self-care after discharge
• Perform other duties, as needed

Qualifications:

• NYS Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• AHA BLS certification
• Experience with Diabetic Care
• Experience with converting/counting carbs
• Dexcom experience
• Experience with Glucose Monitoring
