This timely course will focus on the definition, prevalence, causes and effects of workplace violence in hospitals and will showcase examples from the Joint Commission and OSHA of prevention, best practices and nationwide laws. In addition, participants will learn how one single empowered nurse can trigger an avalanche of significant changes to the practice environment and the state.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define workplace violence.
  2. Discuss prevalence, causes and effects of workplace violence in hospitals.
  3. Review the Joint Commission 2022 new Workplace Violence Prevention Requirements, standards of best practice.
  4. Describe and discuss evidence-based interventions that reduce workplace violence.
  5. Discuss OSHA and state laws across the country regarding workplace violence in hospitals.
  6. Explore how a single empowered nurse can trigger an avalanche of significant changes to the practice environment and in the state.

Linda Robinson, vice president of clinical excellence at MDM Commercial/Healthcare Division, served in various leadership and clinical positions for more than 30 years at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Linda has a master of science in nursing from Northern Kentucky University and a bachelor of science in nursing from Thomas More College.
